With all the talk about mandatory Continuing Education these days we thought it would be a good topic for members to discuss. Where do you stand in this debate?

California has seen three, yes count them, three Mandatory CE bills sponsored by a PI trade association, CALI, and all of them have failed miserably.  The most recent bill called for 6 hours of ethics, privacy rights, legal updates and another 6 hours of electives.  We support voluntary continuing education, but this bill missed about 100,000 people who perform the identical work of investigators but who are not licensed.  Only about 10,000 woul have been subjected to this ego driven bill that to my eyes was nothing more than an effort by a trade association to effect an industry take-over.

    Lessons leaned?

    1.  NEVER let a trade association legislate ANYTHING that creates a mandate for your license renewal, no matter how many hundreds of thousands of dollars of membership money they care to risk/waste.

    2.  NEVER let a single Board of Directors of ANY trade association speak as though they speak for the industry.  No single person, board or association represents the industry.

    3.  Listen to what the PI Informer has to say:  www.piinformer.com
